THE LEGEND OF TANSHIHUAI


Tanshihuai, the founder of the state of Xiangbi (Mongolian: Sumbe), was born in 136 in the house of Tuluhou, the military ruler of Xiangbi.

According to the legend of Tanshihuai's birth: During Tuluhou serving for three years in the Hun's army, after that his queen gave birth to a son. When Tuluhou returned from military service, he found out and tried to kill the boy, but the queen persuaded him to stop. And she said "One day, as I was walking outside, the sky rumbled and I looked up in shock at that sound, and a piece of hail slipped into my mouth. Shortly after she was swallowed, she gave birth to a baby boy ten months later. Raising this boy will make him an extraordinary person in the long run."

Tuluhou stopped killing, but he was despised and ignored by his son. However, the queen secretly ordered her servants to take care of the boy and gave him the name Tanshihuai. 

From an early age, Tanshihuai excelled in military science, and at the age of 14-15, he distinguished himself from his peers in physical development, courage, and intelligence. On one occasion, when the head of another province's stole Tanshihuai's and his family's cow, and he chased after him alone on horseback, fought back, and brought back everything he had stolen. His reputation grew and he was praised by both young and old.
